ALPHETA'S LITERARY AGORA

If I Were A Chess Master
by Michael Frey

If I were a chess master,
I would create a nickname,
Something to announce my great skill
Something to spread my great fame.

It would have to be clever,
And would have to be fun,
Would have to endeavor,
To scare those who have won.

‘Chess-ter’ is wry,
‘Knightime’ is better,
On a billboard on high,
In big, bold block letter.

Perhaps ‘Pawn-star’ is needed,
To evoke the right fear,
When playing the top seeded,
Or a ‘rook-y’ volunteer.

Now the bishops got steam,
But the queen is much faster,
And I sit back and dream
That I was a chess master.
