Out da box
by Waterlotus (wild and unboxed)
(8/4/06)

I'm sure that we will all agree
that the game cannot be played
until the pieces come out of the box.

Sometimes it's enough
to just spill them out on the board,
forgetting rules
and all formalities,
indeed, normalities! Even all jumbled up, the game can be enjoyed.
Just the touch of the pieces
can suffice to break the ice...
to fondle the passionate queen,
to tweek the bishop's cap,
play horsy with the knight,
admire the powerful faith of the simple pawn,
hear the rich drumbeat of the wooden toys as they
spill from all restraints and join the tumbled the dance.

But, staying in the box
is what makes for cramping
and wheezing and damping
and bad backs
'n such.

Far better to have played too much.
